本片的背景——美墨边境的偷渡问题。虽然个人对这个议题不感兴趣，但还是说一下，因为这是片中所有冲突的起源。 美国社会福利好，墨西哥人想到那边谋生、定居、生孩子。但底层劳动人民达不到移民条件，所以只能冒险偷渡。不怕死的可以自己走过去，像Miguel这种多次偷渡的（不过每次都被遣返），已经轻车熟路。
