东芝TG01厚度只有9.9毫米，侧面图很销魂，就是让人担心电量问题。4.1英寸高分辨率屏幕有着震撼的画面效果，尤其1GHz高速处理器让人印象深刻。

高通公司的Snapdragon平台包括拥有定制的千兆赫微处理器内核及以600兆赫速率运行的公司第六代数字信号处理器（DSP）内核的芯片组，致力于打造拥有卓越移动计算能力的应用处理。Snapdragon平台的其他功能包括集成蜂窝宽带以及Wi-Fi、蓝牙和移动电视；支持高清视频录播；高达 WXGA的分辨率（1280 ×768）；辅助GPS精准定位；硬件加速3D图形以及业界领先的支持更小巧、更时尚终端的高集成度特性。

At Mobile World Congress, new smartphone concepts always claim to "revolutionize" the mobile world. Does the Toshiba TG01 have what it takes?

We can't say we saw this one coming already at this point, but UK-based Pocket-Lint has gotten their hands on the Toshiba TG01 - a Windows Mobile smartphone powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset. In the recent days, information has appeared that pretty much confirms that old Pocket PC manufacturers such as Toshiba, Acer and Dell have re-entered the Windows Mobile stage. Of course, the inevitable question is whether they will offer competitive devices this time around.

Regardless, it's pretty clear that Mobile Internet Devices powered by Windows Mobile is playing a crucial role for traditional computer manufacturers right now. Of course, they'll all claim to "revolutionize the mobile world", but so did Apple when the iPhone was announced. And we all know how much work the company has put in since then, to keep up with user expectations.

In other words, we'll sit back and relax at this point, until we see how many of these new concepts will actually be followed up with those crucial updates. As for the Toshiba TG01 specifically, it reminds us slightly of the claims made for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 at Mobile World Congress last year. Perhaps we'll see a new Sony Ericsson smartphone showing up soon too?

The Toshiba TG01 will offer a 4.1-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) touch screen, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS as well as a microSD slot. It'll be powered by Windows Mobile 6.x and a custom Tosh 3D GUI / Home screen will be running atop the Windows Mobile Professional platform. Most notably though, is the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset hidden beneath a 9.9mm thick casing. Throw in a load of RAM, and the inclusion of Mobile Internet Explorer 6 with Flash support could easily make the Toshiba TG01 one of the highlights at Mobile World Congress 2009.

Toshiba TG01 announced with iPhone-trumping Snapdragon chipset

toshiba-tg01-1Qualcomm has finally made it to market with its heralded system-on-chip Snapdragon chipset. The Toshiba (OTCPK: TOSBF) TG01 has just been announced as the iPhone-trumping Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone packing a 1Ghz Snapdragon QSD2850 in an impressively slim and stylishly curved 9.9mm-thick package. The Toshiba TG01 features a 4.1-inch WVGA resistive (pressure-sensitive) touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution that should give even the monster-display on the HTC Touch HD. And, with a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM radio, 3G (HSPA) data connectivity, WiFi, microSDHC card slot (up to 32GB) and A-GPS rounding out the feature set, the Toshiba TG01 proves to be a real powerhouse of a smartphone.

toshiba-tg01-4The Toshiba TG01’s Snapdragon chipset, with a dual-core processor that crams a 1Ghz ARM core next to a 600Mhz DSP core, should make quick work of near-HD video encoding and playback. The display features the color matching, dynamic gamma correction and LCD backlight control technologies that we’re used to seeing in Toshiba’s HDTVs, lending to the TG01’s multimedia prowess.

The TG01 employs a customized GUI (graphical user interface) that rides atop Windows Mobile 6.1 much like HTC’s TouchFLO 3D UI. The TG01’s home-brew UI is intended for one-handed use and relies heavily on the same sideways-sliding finger inputs that have been so popular with the iPhone OS and HTC TouchFLO 3D UI. Unfortunately, the resistive touchscreen gets low marks from Slashgear for its gaming potential, or lack thereof.

The Toshiba TG01 should give Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) some serious competition for the multimedia throne that the iPhone has so deftly captured. The blazing 1Ghz processor complemented with 600Mhz of dedicated DSP processing power endows the TG01 with laptop-like computing power that will likely have the folks in Cupertino rethinking their iPhone strategy.
